Blog 7

Tuesday May 5th was a special day... if you are a Percy Jackson and the Olympians FAN!!! (Many people are), that's because the final book of the series, "The Last Olympian" is out and will answer all of the secrets untold, especially the cliffhanger from the fourth book, where it ends before he tells Percy the plan. So, since it was a special occasion, I had a race with my friends to see who got the book first, sadly I came 3rd. I guess 7:30 was a bit too late... (I didn't think they'd actually go get it though...)

First of all, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a special type of book, and like Pendragon, it is written in first person, (past-tense though, so it already happened). The main story revolves around greek mythology and how it is real and alive today. Of course it's hard to find the story practical when the sun is being pulled by the god Appollo on his chariot while he is still in Mount Olympus, the story is well described and well thought, you pretty get everything explained to you that involves greek mythology.

One of the main reasons I've liked the series is the ability for the book to use greek mythology to explain science. Although greek mythology itself already explained how thunder worked, (Zeus) it still is hard to make sense. The author kind of puts a spin in the story and makes you think of all the things that make sense, not the weird places that don't make sense.

The story takes place in New York, half-way accross the world from Greece. But apparently, Greek Mythology moved to western civilization after western civilization became more powerful. Mount Olympus itself moved to the top of the Empire State Building. One of the main places I find interesting is that the sea of Monsters, a scary wicked place is located exactly where the Bermuda Triangle is, that explains the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. Along with the gods, there are also a lot of monsters, but humans can't see them because of the "mist" kind of like the demons from the City of Bones series, people can't see them.

I finished the book in 3 days, and it was a very good book. At first, when I heard it would be the last book in the series, I was a bit dissapointed. Yet once again, there is a bit of a cliffhanger in the end where the oracle announces a new prophecy. Then in the author's note, the author (Rick Riordan btw) says that he is happy to finish the first series in the Camp Half Blood series, I also read on his website that he is preparing to right the second series and is saying that although the main characters will be different, Percy and other main characters will make cameo appearences. The first book of the series is said to come out in 2010.

The Last Olympian obviously gets a
