The City of Bones
Part 1-2 Pages 1-188
This is the current book I am reading in my reading club and is in a series called the Mortal Instruments. This book by Cassandra Clare is the first book in the series and is quite the adventure/fantasy type of book. This time I'm doing 2 parts because it would be awkward to start on the second stage. Alright so the main character in this book, Clary; is seeing demons and all those other monsters and then witnesses one getting slain by a shadow hunter, the good guys. After her mom gets kidnapped, she has to stay at the Institute where shadowhunters Jace, Alec and Isabelle live. It's good that there's strong drama when the story slows down, but one thing to watch out is all the disturbing parts. The story has an interesting concept of how the world works, which one of the few parts I look for in books; a well explained view of how things work. Anyways, demons come from different dimesions and are the evil guys who eat normal people up. So at the beginning of time, the "Angel" created a group of men into Shadowhunters using the Mortal Cup, read a lot of things like that. So that's how the Shadowhunters helped humans, (although they are humans themselves...) Now interestingly, the book then blends in real legends and gives the missing info and makes it all make sense. By this I mean your legendary monster/creature. Witches, werewolves, vampires, faeries and all those other Hocus Pocus stuff are actually half bloods... half demon half human. And that's where the true villain comes in, and amazingly its not a demon but actually a shadowhunter! Valentine, Clary's mother Joceyln's old husband got banished and dissapeared after trying to kill all the "downworlders"(witches...) and was taken down by the Shadowhunter government, the Clave. Very interesting concept of how things work and really cool characters. I was supposed to read to the part where they were about to meet Magnus Bane, a sorcerer who put a mind block into Clary's head, but honestly... I've read way past that... in fact I'm almost finished. So overall I think this is a pretty cool book and so far I give it a...
