The Next Book in the Mortal Instruments

So far we know that the City of Bones (Book 1) and the City of Ashes (Book 2), but I was bored so I checked out Cassandra Clare's website (the author) and found out that Book 3, the City of Glass was already out and there were excerpts and reviews there. So I decided to read the excerpt, here's an excerpt of the excerpt...

Chapter One: The Portal

The cold snap of the previous week was over; the sun was shining brightly as Clary hurried across Luke's dusty front yard, the hood of her sweater up to keep her hair from blowing across her face. The weather might have warmed up, but the wind off the East River could still be brutal. It carried with it a faint chemical smell, mixed with the Brooklyn smell of asphalt, gasoline and burned sugar from the abandoned factory down the street.

Simon was waiting for her on the front porch, sprawled in the broken-springed armchair Luke had dragged out there last summer, meaning to throw away, but had never gotten around to tossing in the alley dumpster. It smelled like mildew now and there were bits of foam poking out of the rips in the upholstery, but Simon didn't seem to mind. He had his DS balanced on his blue-jeaned knees and was poking away at it industriously with the stylus. "Score," he said, as she came up the steps. "I'm kicking butt at Mario Kart."

Clary pushed her hood back, shaking hair out of her eyes, and rummaged in her pocket for her keys. "Where have you been? I've been calling you all afternoon."

Simon got to his feet, shoving the blinking game cube into his messenger bag. "I was at Eric's. Band practice."

Clary stopped jiggling the key in the lock -- it always stuck -- long enough to frown at him. "Band practice? You mean you're still --"

"In the band? Why wouldn't I be?" He reached around her. "Here, let me do it."

Clary stood still while Simon expertly twisted the key with just the right amount of pressure, making the stubborn old lock spring open. His hand brushed hers; his skin was cool, the temperature of the air outside. She shivered a little. They'd only called off their attempt at a romantic relationship last week and she still felt confused whenever she saw him.

"Thanks." She took the key back without looking at him.

City of Bones Extra!!!

When reading, I often think of food or a song when I come across a part. Sometimes when listening a song while reading, your think of the book every time you hear the song again. There's been studies trying to prove that music is a part of memory and can make you smarter. For example, while reading Harry Potter the Goblet of Fire, I was unfortunately listening to an extremely weird song that had a pretty powerful tune. Now, every time that song comes up, it always reminds me of dragons and Chocolate Frogs... Food is different, usually it's when I read it, it makes me want to eat it. Like the Hunger Games was a wild survival where food had to be gathered or hunted, this reminded me of the 100 mile diet and Survivorman.(Best show ever)

So The City of Bones was an interesting choice, but if you saw the fan trailer I posted on before, there was really good music that although wasn't too good, it got stuck in my head and that's all I've been thinking while I read the book. (BTW the name is "Guide to Marine Life" It's pretty good) Generally, I don't really think about food when I read, but it kind of made me want to get some junk food, but it wouldn't let me cause the action took forever to slow down. This book reminds me of a lot of movies and books, the Percy and the Olympians are one of the names that comes up.(The Lightning Thief is coming out as a movie soon!) Speaking of movies, the book definitely needs to become a movie. Then there's my favourite part of relating the characters to players, for some reason. After seeing the "Jace" character in the trailer, he seriously looks like Fernando Torres!

Blog 1 (The Real One)

The City of Bones
Part 1-2 Pages 1-188
This is the current book I am reading in my reading club and is in a series called the Mortal Instruments. This book by Cassandra Clare is the first book in the series and is quite the adventure/fantasy type of book. This time I'm doing 2 parts because it would be awkward to start on the second stage. Alright so the main character in this book, Clary; is seeing demons and all those other monsters and then witnesses one getting slain by a shadow hunter, the good guys. After her mom gets kidnapped, she has to stay at the Institute where shadowhunters Jace, Alec and Isabelle live. It's good that there's strong drama when the story slows down, but one thing to watch out is all the disturbing parts. The story has an interesting concept of how the world works, which one of the few parts I look for in books; a well explained view of how things work. Anyways, demons come from different dimesions and are the evil guys who eat normal people up. So at the beginning of time, the "Angel" created a group of men into Shadowhunters using the Mortal Cup, read a lot of things like that. So that's how the Shadowhunters helped humans, (although they are humans themselves...) Now interestingly, the book then blends in real legends and gives the missing info and makes it all make sense. By this I mean your legendary monster/creature. Witches, werewolves, vampires, faeries and all those other Hocus Pocus stuff are actually half bloods... half demon half human. And that's where the true villain comes in, and amazingly its not a demon but actually a shadowhunter! Valentine, Clary's mother Joceyln's old husband got banished and dissapeared after trying to kill all the "downworlders"(witches...) and was taken down by the Shadowhunter government, the Clave. Very interesting concept of how things work and really cool characters. I was supposed to read to the part where they were about to meet Magnus Bane, a sorcerer who put a mind block into Clary's head, but honestly... I've read way past that... in fact I'm almost finished. So overall I think this is a pretty cool book and so far I give it a...

City of Bones> Cool Trailer I Found.

This is not mine, I found it on the internet and it seemed pretty cool. Not the official trailer, I don't even think a movie is coming out.

I'm gonna give this video a rating of

First Blog + Manifesto

First Blog-
First of all, these blogs that you are about to read, are actually a school project. This is where I'll be posting what I think about the book I read (currently City of Bones). I'm in a reading club, and my club mates also have their own blogs. (I'll post the links to their websites later). Anyways, the way my group is doing it is by reading a part (about 100 pages) of a book and comment on what we have read so far. That's why sometimes I don't know what happens in the end, because I haven't finished the book yet! Alright, this pretty much concludes my first blog, (more of an introduction... oh well) Next is my Manifesto.

manifesto-

“A manifesto is a public declaration of principles and intentions, often political in nature, but may also be life stance related. However, manifestos relating to religious belief are rather referred to as credo.” Thanks to Wikipedia for the explanation. What did we do before google and wikipedia? I got this from my teacher's website. Check it out at http://literaturecircles.blog.com/

My Manifesto-

First of all, I have to say that I'm not much of a book reader, sure I read a book time to time, but I find it hard to get into most books, I usually only read a certain type of genre which would be adventure or survival. I wouldn't read a book unless it's in a series that I've read before, or my friends recommended it to me. So I hope that while writing these blogs (and reading others), I might find out about more books that I might like and start reading more.
